Reserves vs Assandun Vikings LFC (League Cup)

News story posted: 03 Nov '09  10:06

Billericay Town LFC Reserves visited Assandun Vikings for the first round of the league cup. Assandun play in Division 2.

The game started on a wet and windy day with Billericay playing the first half up a slope and against the wind. Despite this disadvantage Billericay acquitted themselves well in the first half, able to withstand anything thrown at them, especially stand in goalkeeper Vicky Martin who was outstanding the whole game. On the occasions Billericay did break forward, they did so with some purpose playing some good football without really threatening the Assundan goal.

Half time 0-0

The second half started with real hope for Billericay, with a quick break with passes from 3 or 4 Billericay players the ball fell to Jo Attridge at the far post who's shot just clipped the top of the crossbar. This was unfortunately the highlight for Billericay this half. Assandun won a corner, and with a pinpoint cross the Assandun forward volleyed the ball home with some confidence, 0-1. A break down the left hand side for Assandun, saw the cross handled in the penalty area. The penalty was taken, and finished well, 0-2. With Billericay trying to throw everything forward to get back into the game, Assandun broke away leaving Vicky Martin no chance in goal, 0-3.

Full time 0-3

Congratulations to Assandun Vikings on a deserved win, good luck to them in the rest of the cup competition.

Team - V Martin, K Bowman, H Docherty (Capt.), A Eastabrook ,H Jacob, E Sykes, T Rodd, E Mangold, J Attridge,S Quinn, G Ozbek, D Ralph
